Executive Summary

Michael Ward has over 25 years of progressive business experience spanning accounting, finance, marketing, strategic planning and executive leadership positions. Since 2004, he has overseen accounting services and served as a consulting CFO to a variety of nonprofit and small business clients with annual budgets of less than $1 million to more than $85 million per year. His nonprofit clients include organizations with federal awards subject to the cost principles and audit requirements of Subpart E and Subpart F of OMB’s Uniform Grant Guidance.  He has guided the implementation of cost allocation methodologies and negotiated related indirect cost rate agreements. 

Michael serves as a strategic and consultative resource to both management and Boards of his clients. He brings the additional perspective of having served on nonprofit boards since 2003, currently serving organizations with annual budgets in excess of $200 million and total assets of more than $150 million.  He guides budget development and financial analysis, contributes to strategic planning, and provides financial leadership to clients in interactions with funders and regulators in addition to overseeing the accounting function.

Michael was previously the President and CEO of the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute, an organization providing services to children and adults with developmental disabilities in Washington, DC. The Institute had an annual budget of $14 million and served over 500 people each day through 15 different programs with over 200 employees. He became the CEO of the organization following a period as a consulting CFO to assist in a turnaround of the accounting and financial functions of the organization.

He has additional public accounting experience with Touche Ross and Price Waterhouse and worked for more than five years in marketing and finance roles with MCI Telecommunications.
